Chairman of the Board of Trustees
I have been proud to support the Irish Blue Cross since 1993, when I first became involved as a volunteer, helping to establish a financial management reporting structure.
My lifelong love of animals, always having dogs or cats at home, made it easy to stay committed to the charity’s mission. At that time, the organisation had very few full-time staff and relied heavily on the dedication of volunteers. Drawing on my professional background as a Management Accountant with Irish Press Newspapers, and later as a Credit Union Manager, I was able to contribute my skills and experience to help strengthen the charity’s foundations.
Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of serving in several roles, including Trustee, Treasurer, and member of both the Management and Remuneration Committees.
In December 2016, I was honoured to be elected Chairman of the Board of Trustees. It is a privilege to serve in this role at a time when the charity has grown significantly, expanding its services and building a highly dedicated professional team, across both small animal welfare and our horse ambulance service.
I am proud to work alongside my fellow Trustees, whose shared commitment and wide-ranging expertise continue to guide the organisation forward.
Looking ahead, my ambition is to see the Irish Blue Cross continue to grow its impact, improving the lives and welfare of animals for many years to come.
Zair Berry is a Chartered Accountant based in London. He has been an Irish Blue Cross Trustee since April 2004, a Trustee and former Chairman of Blue Cross in the UK from 2010 to 2015. Zair has brought a broad range of financial, governance and charity sector skills to The Irish Blue Cross during the last decade of its developments in particular.
Wayne Brooks is a dedicated risk executive based in Dublin working for U.S Bank with ten years plus experience in risk management with strong governance skills and leadership experience of managing large teams (70+) across multiple countries. Wayne grew up in rural Worcestershire, and has a love for dogs and an interest in horse racing. He joined the Board of Directors of The Irish Blue Cross in February 2019.
John Costello is a retired veterinary surgeon and owner of Animark, a government approved microchipping database. John has been involved with The Irish Blue Cross from when he provided veterinary services at the mobile clinics in 1966 to taking up a position as Trustee on The Board in May 2006.
Robert Moynihan is a qualified Chartered Accountant specialising in providing governance, risk management and compliance advice to the Irish credit union sector. He joined the Board of The Irish Blue Cross in April 2015. He led the development of the charity’s current strategic plan and is the Data Protection officer as defined in the 2018 General Data Protection Regulations. He brings expertise in finance, governance & data protection compliance to the Board of Trustees.
Gary O’Sullivan is Senior Legal Counsel at Muller UK and Ireland, and is based in Wolverhampton, UK. He joined the Board of The Irish Blue Cross in June 2014 with much knowledge of the charity from his early years. He is a grandson of a founding member, Leo Campbell and son of Gerry O’Sullivan.
Henrietta Roper Curzon is a PR and media specialist based in Guernsey. She is currently relaunching the interior design company, Timney Fowler. Henrietta has been an Irish Blue Cross Trustee since 2014 and is a Trustee of Blue Cross, UK. She has strong Blue Cross roots as her mother was a member of both the Irish and English Blue Cross.
Christina Lonergan is currently Head of Banking & Credit for Barclays Private Bank in Ireland. She has spent 17 years in the banking industry across the UK, Channel Islands and now Ireland and brings experience of risk, control , governance as well as people and the people agenda to the Board of Trustees. Christina is a passionate animal lover and feels strongly about the mission of The Irish Blue Cross.
